I am a textile artist and founder of Soulana Stuidos - a design studio based in Johannesburg whose practice spans interior design, fashion, and furniture. My work is rooted in material exploration, handcraft, and storytelling, where textiles become both functional objects and cultural artefacts. At the core of my practice is a deep commitment to the preservation of craftsmanship — the slow, intentional processes that carry history, memory, and human touch.

I work in response to a rapidly digitising world. While technology continues to shape how we live and create, I believe it should not replace the value of uniquely crafted objects. Instead, my work explores how new-age technologies can coexist with traditional techniques to push innovation without erasing heritage. Through methods such as handwork, textural layering, and experimental construction, I create pieces that honour ancestral knowledge while engaging with contemporary systems and ideas.

My purpose is to advocate for a renaissance of craftsmanship — one that resists disposability and celebrates meaning, longevity, and care. By merging traditional textile practices with forward-thinking concepts, I aim to challenge the notion that progress requires abandoning the handmade. Each piece I create becomes a dialogue between past and future, tradition and innovation.

Through this intersection, I push culture forward by reframing craftsmanship as a vital, evolving language — one that remains relevant, adaptable, and essential in shaping more thoughtful, culturally grounded futures.
