I'm a skateboarder at heart, from the city of Durban. My dream shifted from wanting to be a professional skateboarder to being a good skateboarder who recognizes the gap skateboarding is missing especially in this city where there's a constant need for support for the community. We wouldn't see the skateboarding scene is under privileged but its definitely seen more and more hometown heroes moving out of the city to be better at other cities where they have more skateboarding facilities. My creative discipline involves experiments in real time where i constantly try to show the community different ways to express themselves than through skateboarding, it can be through screenprinting or jewelry design where we've seen a few boardvcompanies screen printing on boards as a creative discipline and expressionism. My work is to focus on nurturing and maintaining the skateboarding culture and try make permanent changes to it for the next generation to thrive in as the previous generation has paved the way for us and got us our first skate park. Through engaging skate competition we are able to maintain and support this community and show brands relevancy. Pushing the culture forward through community collaborations, competition and skills development matters to me because our community will have more than one creative outlet to express themselves in. The community has reached the point where it needs to evolve for the next generation of skateboarders in the city to thrive, with the progression of skateboarding in the world. My role is to continue Host regular skateboarding competitions in and out of the city to encourage growth and progress.
