Onkemetse Lekone, well know as “Onkie” is a South African multidisciplinary female artist born and raised in Mahikeng, a small village called Lomanyaneng, she’s a creative, magazine designer, copywriter, music curator and cultural strategist. She is the founder of Botaki Magazine, a digital publication under Botaki Media Agency that explores art, music, culture, and storytelling through an intentional African lens.
Her work centers on perspective, emotional truth, and cultural documentation, using media as a tool to preserve narratives and connect communities. Through design, writing, and sound, Onkemetse contributes to shaping contemporary creative conversations in South Africa.
Pushing culture forward matters to me because culture is shaped by perception and transformed through perspective. Through Botaki, my work challenges surface-level narratives by creating space for deeper, more intentional storytelling. I aim to contribute work that expands understanding, reflects lived experience, and encourages meaningful engagement with culture.
