

I am a Joburg-raised, Cape Town-based illustrator, mainly focusing on surreal portraiture. My work is inspired by experiences growing up in the inner-city of Johannesburg and the shared childhood experiences of being a city kid, and how that has shaped who I am as an adult.
The work aims to highlight how contemporary art as an African is gradually shifting, growing up in a globalised world — many influences have played a part in my art, but with that comes the responsibility of still representing where I come from and not losing that. You may see remnants of shows like Takalni Sesame/ Sesame Street infused in my muses. It also aims to highlight the beauty in overcoming struggles and being resilient, no matter what. There is greatness in modern African art, and the kids need to be shown what can be achieved through the arts and a bit of self-belief.
Pushing culture means I create what I feel is the future of visual art and how we are seen by the world. If that impact is felt, then the kids can follow suit and push themselves too, in the hope of being great artists in their own way.
