Intro/ Creative Discipline
Twofold is a film directing and photography duo working across narrative,
commercial, and culture led visual storytelling. Our practice sits at the intersection of
film, photography, and contemporary African expression, shaped by a dual approach
to image making: Wes from a cinematography first perspective and Simba from a
photographic and conceptual lens. This fusion allows us to balance cinematic
movement with striking stillness, pairing emotional storytelling with bold visual
composition.
We are drawn to stories that live in the between, be it between countries, identities,
generations, and genres. Our work often explores themes of belonging, aspiration,
and modern African life, using texture, rhythm, and performance to build worlds that
feel grounded yet elevated.
The Work We Focus On
Our work spans brand films, fashion and music driven projects, documentaries, and
shortform narrative pieces. Regardless of format, we approach each project with a
cinematic sensibility, prioritising mood, character, and visual intention over spectacle
alone.
We are particularly interested in collaborations that allow us to engage with culture
authentically, working with artists, brands, and communities to create stories that feel
lived in rather than observed or forced. Whether crafting intimate portraits or high
energy campaigns, we aim to create visuals that resonate emotionally while
remaining visually distinctive and culturally specific.
Why Pushing Culture Forward Matters to Us
Pushing culture forward is central to our practice because our own lives have been
shaped by movement and hybridity. With Zimbabwean roots, a Botswana upbringing,
and a South African base, we exist within multiple cultural realities. This lived
experience informs how we see the world and why representation, nuance, and
authorship matter deeply to us.
Through our work, we aim to expand the visual language of African and diasporic
storytelling moving beyond stereotypes and surface level narratives to reflect the
complexity, beauty, and contradictions of contemporary modern African life. We
believe film has the power to archive moments, shift perception, and inspire new
ways of seeing. By telling stories that feel honest and forward looking, we contribute
to a cultural conversation that
